Manchester United’s new signing, Donny Van de Beek has revealed the influence former Dutch players had on him in making a switch to the Manchester club.
The Netherlands international completed a €39m (£34.6m) move plus another €5m (£4.4m) in add-ons to United earlier this month and has signed a contract until June 2025.
Van de Beek who might be making his debut when United take in Crystal Palace in their first league match noted that former Dutch players in United influenced his decision.
Speaking with Inside United magazine, Van de Beek said:
“I watched United a lot [when I was younger], because a lot of Dutch players have played here and this was nice to watch if you’re a young kid and you see the Dutch players there.”
“Daley (Blind), Edwin, Robin van Persie… you see them. They won a lot of titles and United always played nice football, which was always good to see.”
He will be eager to make a mark at United just like the former Dutch stars who have grace the pitch at Old Trafford with the likes of Robin van Persie, Edwin van de Sar and Ruud van Nistlerooy enjoying great success with the club.
