The Liverpool manager was offered a return back to the Bundesliga side in the summer of 2018 but rejected the offer in a stunning manner.
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke revealed in his book that he tried tried to lure him back.
Watzke writes in a new book, as per Bild: “I knew Jurgen would fulfil his contract until the end.”
“Jurgen has always fulfilled his contracts. But I wanted a new path at BVB and I at least had to ask Jurgen to consider.”
While Klopp was on a plane, having recently guided Liverpool to the Champions League final, he received a phone call from his old boss and was almost in disbelief.
“My phone rang while I was on the plane. ‘Jurgen, you have to come back’,” Klopp recalls.
“I thought he was kidding. ‘Are you stupid? Have you been drinking? How did you get the idea? I’ve got a few more years in Liverpool’.”
Klopp won two Bundesliga titles during his time managing BVB before leaving at the end of the 2014/15 season and eventually taking on the vacant position at Liverpool when Brendan Rodgers was sacked.
