Napoli to rename historical stadium ‘Stadio San Paolo’ after late Diego Maradona


As the whole world continue to mourn the death of one of football greatest player, Diego Armando Maradona, his old club Napoli, is set to name their historical stadium,  Stadio Sao Paulo, after the Argentine wizard.

It would be recalled that Diego Maradona, who spent seven years with the Italian giants, died after suffering a cardiac arrest in his home country of Argentina.

Top legends in the game like the graet Brazilian Pele have all sent their tributes to the families and loved of maradona with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi also penning an heartfelt tribute to Maradona.

One minutes silence was also held at various football ground across the globe ever since his death was announced and the name of Napoli homeground which house 55,000 fans now set to be called Sao-Paolo-Diego Armando Maradona.

While he’s best known for his dazzling displays in the iconic white and sky blue stripes of Argentina, Maradona is also worshipped on the streets of Naples.

Between 1984 and 1991, he scored 115 goals for Napoli and even became Italian football’s top scorer for the 1987-88 season.
