Manchester United star Luke Shaw is relishing the competition that Alex Telles provides to his role in the team.

United signed Telles from Porto on transfer deadline day with many expecting the Brazilian to slot straight into the team.

The Red Devils have struggled at the start of this season and were thrashed 6-1 by Tottenham in their last Premier League match.

Shaw will be at risk by Telles’ arrival though the former Southampton star believes competition in the squad is needed.

Alex Telles joined Manchester United and signed a 4- year contract.

“Competition for any team is a must,” Shaw told Manchester United’s official website.

“There is competition for every single spot and you’ve got to be ready for it, work hard and give the manager a decision harder than what he’s had to make before.

‘Like I said, competition is very healthy for the squad, it’ll push everyone even more because everyone wants to play.

“It [Saturday’s match] is one we all want to play in. We all hoped it would be a bit earlier, to be honest, as the last game wasn’t good.

“We’ve had a lot of time to think and work and be ready for this. We need to win it. It’s a must-win game and we want to put things right.

“We’ve got very important games coming up. Everyone is looking forward to working hard so we’re going to be ready for it.”

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is excited to see Telles in action after he put pen to paper on a four-year deal.

The manager said: “First and foremost, I welcome Alex to United. He is a player we have been tracking for some time and his performances over the past few years are exactly what we are looking for.
