RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano has been named as Liverpool’s ‘top transfer target’ after Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk injuries
Dayot Upamecano is reportedly Liverpool’s top transfer target for the January window.
The Reds are short in defence having lost Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez for most of the 2020/21 season to serious knee injuries.
It leaves injury-prone defender Joel Matip as the club’s only senior centre-half, with over a month to go before the transfer window reopens.

Fabinho, who has been helping out in defence, is also sidelined with an unspecified injury, along with right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold (calf).
The Athletic claim RB Leipzig defender Upamecano, who could leave for around £40million at the end of the season, is Liverpool’s first-choice target.
Liverpool had been aiming to sign the 22-year-old next summer, and it remains to be seen whether they will accelerate their transfer plans in the January window.
