Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi has revealed the main reason why he struggled to make an inpact during Barcelona’s second leg against Liverpool at Anfield last summer.
With the Spanish Giant leading the first leg with a three goal margin, they let their guard down as Liverpool went on to make an historical comeback.
Lionel Messi who was part of the travelling party has now reveal the reason why he struggled so much against Liverpool centre back Virgil van Dijk in the two teams’ Champions League semi-final.
When questioned about why he couldn’t get pass Van Dijk during their match at Anfield, Messi who was crowned the Golden Shoe winner after a remarkable season told Marca:
“He is a defender who knows how to judge his timing and wait for the right moment to challenge or jockey [the attacker].”
“He is very fast and big, but he has a lot of agility for his height.
He is fast because of its great stride, and he is impressive both in defence and attack because he scores lots of goals.”
Messi will be hoping to get the Spanish team to a Champions League final after missing the two episode.
