Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has submitted a request to leave the club after a disastrous season that saw them go trophy less.
The 33-year-old has spent his entire career with the Spanish giants with whom he won six Ballon d’Or.
Reliable Catalan reporter Gerard Romero all but confirmed the shocking development.
He tweeted: “Thank you President, for this historic disaster. What a shame.”
Former Skipper Carles Puyol also tweeted:
“Respect and admiration, Leo. All my support, friend.”
Lionel Messi have become one of the best player world football has ever seen as he has gone on to break numerous records.
The Argentine forward is rumoured to be leaving the club with some other big names which include, Luis Suarez.
Messi came through the ranks at the Nou Camp having joined the famed La Masia academy and has won 33 major trophies and a record six Ballon d’Or titles.
